About Me

Kia ora, 您好, and welcome — I’m Mei Long, a registered NZAC counsellor. I am also a qualified counsellor in China, having received training in 2009. I believe that every person holds the capacity to heal, grow, and flourish — even in the face of life’s most difficult challenges.

I work with both individuals and couples, supporting clients through a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, ADHD, PTSD, complex trauma, relational difficulties, and life transitions such as settlement challenges, separation or marital crisis.

My Approach

I specialise in trauma-informed and culturally appropriate therapy. My pluralistic approach means I tailor each session to meet your unique needs, drawing from a range of therapeutic models, including:

  • Trauma-Informed Stabilisation Treatment (TIST)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Transactional Analysis (TA)

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Creative and Expressive Therapy

For couples counselling, I use:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • IMAGO Relationship Therapy

Who I Am

Drawing from my diverse life experiences — growing up in China, immigrating to New Zealand in young adulthood, working across various industries, and navigating motherhood and marriage in a blended, multicultural family — I bring deep empathy and lived understanding to the therapeutic space. These experiences shape the way I listen, relate, and support each person’s journey with openness and respect.

Together, we will create a space where you can feel safe, heard, and supported — and where meaningful change can take place.

Ms Y, NZ

“2023 was the darkest year of my life. However, I consider myself lucky because I had the privilege of meeting Mei, who guided me and helped me emerge from the darkness. It's like she slowly pieced together the shattered me, creating a new version – brave, strong, believing in love and warmth.
After more than half year's counselling, I gained a clear understanding of myself and learned to treat myself kindly. Mei helped me shift from blaming my original family to appreciating my parents, giving me a greater ability to perceive happiness and beauty. I believe everyone needs counselling because professionals like Mei help us understand ourselves. Mei is a great listener who documents all my changes and provides periodic summaries. Because of her, I can love this world again."
